    KETOGENIC CONFUSION - how some customers are sold broken diet programs.

    There’s no shortage of mass confusion when selling diet programs. Unfortunately, many dieters gain weight on one of the best programs for building a healthy lifestyle when out of ignorance they buy one of the ketogenic perversions below.

    The ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet and it is known to share many similarities with the Atkins and low-carb diets. Sadly, in the 1990’s the Atkins program was proven to fail dieters who actually wanted to lose their extra pounds!

    This kind of diet involves drastically reducing the intake of carbohydrates and replacing them with fat. Know my weight coaching industry as the “Want Bacon On That!” Approach to dieting, People try to DIY this diet promising to put your body in a metabolic state called ketosis. The expectation is When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at converting fat for energy. It also turns fat in the liver into ketones, which supply energy for the brain.

    It also helps to cause a massive reduction in insulin and blood sugar level.

    Problem: Our bodies default to carbohydrate metabolism. Eating a diet too high on protein will cause your body to switch from ketosis to carbohydrate metabolism. You’re probably thinking ... how? Your body will use the excess protein and convert it into sugar, a process called gluconeogenesis. In addition, like the Atkins diet, eating a diet high in animal protein means it is not good.

    High-Purine Foods Include:
    Alcoholic beverages (all types)
    Some fish, seafood, and shellfish, including anchovies, sardines, herring, mussels, codfish, scallops, trout, and haddock.
    Some meats, such as bacon, turkey, veal, venison and organ meats like liver.
    This is why purines are bad for your body.

    The Role of Purines and Uric Acid.

    Purine breaks down into uric acid. Increased levels of uric acid from excess purines may accumulate in your tissues and form crystals. This may cause high uric acid levels in the blood. A uric acid formation may occur when the blood uric acid level rises above 7 mg/dL.

    Too much uric acid in your body causes gout. Most of your uric acid (about two-thirds) is produced by your body naturally. The rest comes from your diet, often in the form of purines. Purines are substances in animal and plant foods that your body converts to uric acid. If you can’t flush the uric acid out through your kidneys, it can build up in the bloodstream and be deposited as needle-shaped crystals in your joints. These crystals cause the severe inflammation and intense pain of a gout attack. This is why eating a diet high I animal protein will hurt you . And there’s more...

    Animal protein tends to be higher in saturated fat and cholesterol. Saturated fat tends to be associated with higher total blood cholesterol/lipids, specifically LDL (the bad one). Higher total and LDL cholesterol levels are risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

    There are compounds naturally found in animal products or created during production that increase their inflammatory profile. These things exist in all meat regardless of organic agriculture.
    Red meat intake is associated with higher levels of inflammatory markers like c-reactive protein (CRP), even when controlling for other dietary and lifestyle factors.

      What Are The Different Types Of Ketogenic Diets?
      There are several versions of ketogenic diet you should be aware of, they include:

      ❖ High-protein ketogenic diet: This is similar to a standard ketogenic diet, but includes more protein. The ratio is often 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbs.
      ❖ The cyclical ketogenic diet (CKD): This diet involves periods of higher-carb refeeds, such as 5 ketogenic days followed by 2 high-carb days.
      ❖ A targeted ketogenic diet (TKD): This diet allows you to add carbs around workouts.
      ❖ Standard ketogenic diet (SKD): This is a very low-carb, moderate-protein and high-fat diet. It typically contains 75% fat, 20% protein, and only 5% carbs
      However, only the standard and high-protein ketogenic diets have been studied extensively. Cyclical or targeted ketogenic diets are more advanced methods and primarily used by bodybuilders or athletes.

      Please note that the information provided in this article mostly applies to the standard ketogenic diet (SKD), although many of the same principles also apply to the other versions of the ketogenic diet.

      Other Health Benefits of Keto
      The ketogenic diet was created as a tool for treating neurological diseases such as epilepsy. Studies have also shown that this diet has benefits for a wide variety of health conditions like:

      ❖ Acne: it helps lower insulin levels and eating less sugar or processed foods may help improve acne.
      ❖ Heart disease: The ketogenic diet is known to improve risk factors like body fat, blood pressure, HDL cholesterol levels, and blood sugar.
      ❖ Polycystic ovary syndrome: The ketogenic diet also helps to reduce insulin levels, which may play a key role in polycystic ovary syndrome.
      ❖ Cancer: This diet is currently being used to treat several types of cancer and slow tumor growth.
      ❖ Parkinson's disease: A study found that the ketogenic diet help improves symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
      ❖ Alzheimer's disease: It may help reduce symptoms of Alzheimer's disease and slow its progression.
      ❖ Brain injuries: One animal study found that the diet can reduce concussions and aid recovery after brain injury.
      ❖ Epilepsy: Research has shown that the ketogenic diet can cause massive reductions in seizures in epileptic children.
      However, keep in mind that research into many of these areas is far from conclusive.
